Building Permits
The Maine Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC) serves as the planning and zoning authority for Sandy River Plantation, including the processing of building permits. You can access building permit applications online or at the Plantation office. To assist with your application, LUPC provides a range of helpful brochures and fact sheets, available on LUPC website.
Please note our Property Assessing Agent will visit your property throughout the build process to keep your records current.
Burn Permits
Please bear in mind conditions are very changeable in our area and the fire warden will make the best possible decision in determining the feasibility of a permit.
Burn permits are available at the Plantation office, online at Maine Open Burn Permit (informe.org), or through the Rangeley Fire Department when the office is closed.
Entrance/Driveway Permit
New driveways onto a public or private road require a permit. Application for Entrance (PDF).
Fireworks Permit
While a State of Maine permit may exempt you from needing a local permit, we ask that you review the fireworks ordinance, notify the Plantation office of your scheduled display, and share a copy of your state permit. This helps support our efforts to ensure safety and consideration for everyone in our community. Thank you for being thoughtful and neighborly!

Plumbing/Septic Permits
Plumbing and Septic Permits are processed by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Subsurface Wastewater Program (not LUPC). Permit applications are available at the Plantation office, or online (PDF).
Septic Permits require a completed HHE-200 design form completed by a Maine Certified Site Evaluator.
Plumbing permits, while processed by Maine Dept of Health and Human Services are handled by a local plumbing inspector. If you have any questions regarding your plumbing permit, please contact Paul Ferguson-Packard, LPI at 207-670-5093 or email mrfixitpaul@gmail.com.
